Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we are asked most often, answered plainly. If yours is not here, your local LocksmithLocal locksmith will be happy to help.
Booking, cost & response
Is there a locksmith near me?
Very likely — LocksmithLocal is a growing network of locally based locksmiths. Use our find a locksmith near you page or the locations directory to find your nearest branch, with your locksmith's name and direct number.
What does a locksmith cost?
Whatever figure your locksmith agrees with you before work starts — fixed, final and free of call-out charges. You pay on completion, by card or cash. For typical costs by job type, see our locksmith prices guide.
Is there a call-out fee?
No. No LocksmithLocal locksmith charges a call-out fee — the price agreed before work begins is the price you pay.
How quickly can a locksmith reach me?
Emergencies are usually reached within 60 minutes, 24 hours a day — because your locksmith starts from inside your own area, not from a depot two counties away.
Are you available 24/7?
Yes — every LocksmithLocal area has round-the-clock emergency cover, every day of the year.
Trust & accreditation
Are your locksmiths genuinely local?
Yes — that is the whole idea. Every LocksmithLocal is one named locksmith who lives and works in the area he serves, which is how the 60-minute response stays honest rather than hopeful.
What accreditations do LocksmithLocal locksmiths hold?
City & Guilds accreditation — the trade's highest — plus NCFE certification, full insurance and a current DBS check, with training delivered through our own accredited training centre, MPL Locksmith Training. Our accreditation guide explains what each of those means, and our why choose us page covers the rest.
Do you use sub-contractors?
Never. The locksmith who quotes your job is the locksmith who does it, and your details are never sold on as a lead.
How do I know I'm choosing a reliable locksmith?
Look for independent accreditation (not just a self-declared badge), proof of insurance, and a locksmith who quotes before starting work. Our guides on how to choose a locksmith and the warning signs of a rogue locksmith walk through exactly what to check.
On the job
What should I do while waiting for the locksmith to arrive?
Please don't try to force the lock or improvise a fix — DIY attempts usually add damage and cost. Stay somewhere safe with your phone to hand, and let your local master locksmith take care of everything the moment he arrives.
Can a locksmith get in without damaging my door?
In most cases, yes. LocksmithLocal locksmiths use non-destructive entry techniques wherever the lock allows, and will always talk you through the options — and the likely cost — before starting work.
How long will it take to gain entry?
That depends on the lock. Standard euro cylinders and rim latches usually open within a few minutes, while anti-snap and other high-security locks are built to resist, so opening them cleanly can take a little longer.
Is the work guaranteed?
Always: 90 days on workmanship and a 12-month manufacturer's warranty on every part fitted, confirmed in writing on every job.
