What We Check
A typical survey takes around 45 minutes to an hour and covers:
- Front and back doors — locks, condition and strength
- All accessible windows and their locks
- Lock standards against BS3621 and your insurer's requirements
- Cylinder snap risk on uPVC and composite doors
- Door and frame strength against forced entry
- Patio and French doors, often a weak point
- Visibility and easy targets — how your home looks to a burglar
- Garages and outbuildings

Here's the one that catches people out: an insurer can refuse to pay a burglary claim if the property wasn't secured to the standard your policy requires — a door left on the latch rather than deadlocked, or a lock that doesn't meet BS3621. The survey checks exactly this, so you find out on a quiet afternoon rather than at the worst possible moment.
